When did you last have a really good
laugh?
Remember?
Are you smiling now?
But
did you know that people laugh less today?
They develop laughter withdrawal
syndrome!
We live in a 24/7 world.
Energies become drained – nerves fray.
People expect immediate results.
Laughter is in short supply.
If so you
are in need of The Laughter Academy!

How can the Laughter Academy help?
-
We conduct Laughter Relaxation sessions for groups which are interactive, lots of
fun and have therapeutic benefits.
-
Whilst the sessions are independent of comedy, they consist of playful laughter
exercises yogic breathing and guided relaxation.
-
And as laughter is contagious, groups quickly become infected within this happy and supportive
atmosphere.
-
Each session is designed with our client’s needs and requirements in mind and combines well established
techniques with our own innovative ideas.
At this point you could already be thinking,”That’s daft! Why would anyone need
to go to a laughter session when people seem to laugh all the time?”
Because:
The reality is people laugh less and less as they
get older. It is a fact that children laugh around 300-400 times a day. Then adults start saying to them
phrases like, “wipe that smile off your face”, “grow-up!”, “stop that laughing!”, “be sensible!”. So by the
time children become teenagers they laugh considerably less. And as adults, we may get to laugh only 15-20
times a day, and for some that could be a good day!
Over the last few decades eminent doctors throughout the world have recognised that laughter has
positive emotional and physical effects on people. This is supported by medical and social studies. More info.
The idea of laughter independent of comedy was developed 15 years ago by Dr Madan Kataria, a Cardiologist
in India, who started laughter ‘clubs’. Since then they have become so popular globally that there are now clubs
in 65 countries. The Laughter Academy leaders have been trained in Dr Kataria’s concepts.
And did you know that laughter is seriously
beneficial!
-
Laughter releases endorphins, the body’s natural pain killer.
-
Laughter boosts the immune system.
-
It’s a stress buster, ( one of the most common reasons people visit doctors is with stress related
conditions).
-
Laughter is energizing and improves circulation and reduces blood pressure.
-
Hearty laughter burns calories, 2 minutes of belly laughter is equivalent of 10
minutes on a rowing machine.
Laughter is not just funny - it is also a very serious business!
A multimillion pound business!
-
Consider the investment media companies put into comedy films, sitcoms and cartoons as they realise
that there is a huge market in laughter and the feel-good factor.
-
Drug companies have spent years exploring and mutating the chemistry that laughter creates in our
bodies, so that they can sell us pills of it.
-
Some of the NHS budget is spent on the essential work the doctor-clowns do in children’s hospitals and
hospices. This ideology was started by the American doctor Patch Adams who believed that
laughter, joy and creativity are an integral part of the healing process.
Laughter can cause a spectrum of emotions.
Laughter can dry tears or create them! It can
stimulate very powerful emotions.
Many of us have shared a problem with a friend
and ended up being able to laugh about it. Some of our worst case scenarios have become tales we can laugh at, in
time!
In hospices laughter provides a welcome
release to clients, relatives, friends and staff, temporarily displacing the emotional challenges of illness and
bereavement.
However, some people feel
quite uncomfortable with laughter, suspicious, irritated, fearful even. These feelings frequently are linked to
experiences in personal history. Having been laughed at is to have been abused. If you find it difficult to
liberate your laughter and would like to do so, enquire about my workshop on laughter.
Some people
suffer from Geliophobia- fear of laughter and/or Gelotophobia- fear of being laughed at. Hypnotherapy
helps!
I , like lots
of others had a parent who worked nights and so they had to sleep through the day. Play had to be quiet and
laughter was subdued . Later I became a nurse at a time when hospital wards were kept fairly
quiet.
As a result,
loud hearty laughter felt uncomfortable, although I envied my giggling friends their ability to laugh freely.
Eventually I’ve learned to laugh as much as anybody.
Join me for our Laughter and Relaxation
sessions and experience the benefits of natural laughter and playfulness.
